About The Timberyard Deptford
The Timberyard Deptford (formerly known as The Wharves Deptford) is the mostly industrial site between Evelyn Street, Oxestalls Road, Grove Street and Dragoon Road, in the Evelyn Ward of North Lewisham.
It has been identified as one of Lewisham Council’s key regeneration sites in the Local Development Framework and in 2008 – 2009 an extensive consultation process took place to help develop proposals that would bring new homes, public spaces, employment and community facilities.
The planning process took a significant amount of time and it was not until 2012 that the existing planning permission was granted. Following this, Lend Lease purchased the development rights from City and Provincial Properties in August 2014.
At the time of the initial consultation and planning process, North Deptford had been identified as an area of considerable growth, however most of the identified projects were in the early stages or on hold. Now, more than five years later, many have advanced and the context of the development is changing.
Given these changes Lend Lease have been re-visiting the existing proposals to look at how they can be better-tuned to the area’s current and future needs; whilst specifically looking at the changed surrounding context to ensure the project is considered as part of the wider area.
Revisions to the proposals look at specific aspects that have changed or need updating in relation to design guidance, sustainability and regulations. For example, the previous proposals included a bespoke facility for the Ascott Cab Company, however they are no longer located in the area and are therefore not in the position to occupy the space.
The revisions have been developed alongside community consultation over the second half of 2014 and early 2015.
In March 2015 we held the final masterplan update events to share how the proposals have updated and provide more information on key issues, ahead of the planning application, which was subsequently submitted to Lewisham Council in May 2015. The masterplan is led by the original masterplanners and architects Hawkins\Brown, now working with HOK, Vogt and the Lend Lease team – please click here for more information on the team.
