Consultation This has been a collaborative process, with extensive involvement and participation extending over a period of 12 months from December 2008. A unique commitment to the process of engagement by the developer and design team, matched by a growing enthusiasm from the community, has created a scheme with a real sense of place and local ownership. A generous time span enabled a meaningful consultation and for community ideas to inform the design.7000 people have been informed about the project through the consultation process; around 700 have participated and 400 people have been directly involved. There have been 13 public consultation events in total, with a growing core interest group providing continuity and depth of understanding. Additionally there have been over 30 'one to one' interviews with 26 local and representative groups to understand better the full range of issues, concerns and opportunities; all alongside meetings with other developers to share understandings, avoid overlaps and consider linkages. A special series of workshops with Year 5 school children at Deptford Park Primary exploring the past, present and future of the area, has established a long-term relationship with the school. Many local stakeholders have signed up to involvement in a Community Project Group, to participate in the development and delivery of improved and new facilities. The Section 106 programme, to be agreed with the council, has been informed by recommendations arising from this engagement process.
