Housing

The Wharves Deptford will accommodate a variety of living environments:
  • Stacked maisonettes with private gardens for families
  • Dual aspect homes clustered in smaller numbers as core communities
  • Traditional courtyards with private shared amenity and childrens' play space
  • Linear blocks with waterside and parkside aspect
  • Taller buildings with great views, pinning the corners of the site
Tenures are mixed across the scheme to encourage positive neighbourliness. A diverse mix of unit types are proposed, ranging from larger than normal 1 bed/ 2 person flats to 4 bed/ 8 person homes.

All new homes have been designed to meet or exceed the unit sizes in the Mayor's Draft London Housing Design Guide (July 2009). This document has been used as a benchmark for all residential standards in both private and affordable accommodation across the scheme. The scheme is unified through consistent and calm palettes of brickwork and metal cladding. Materials are robust, hard wearing, long lasting and are chosen to reflect and reference those that would have been typical to historic wharves, whilst responding to individual human scale. Private amenity space is proposed in the form of generous shared private courtyards as well as individual balconies with a mix of projecting terraces that animate certain facades, recessed balconies and protected winter gardens.
