Public realm
New pedestrian routes will be opened up across the site linking existing green spaces with new public open space.
The first east-west route to be formed will connect Evelyn Street/ Grinstead Road junction to Pepys Park and beyond to the future Convoys Wharf and the river. The second east-west route will connect Deptford Park, through the site to a route aligned with Bowditch, past the refurbished Victoria Public House and beyond to the river. A north-south route alongside the water body will link other routes and extend underneath the opened up Oxestalls Road Bridge, past Deptford Park School and beyond to the north.
The edges of the site will be improved through set backs of building lines, re-surfacing and tree planting. The scheme is conceived as outward looking with edges that actively engage with their surroundings, with retail and community uses that frame parts of the perimeter.
New public spaces will be visible, overlooked, take on a diverse range of uses and form strategic parts of routes across the site.
New public realm is proposed in conjunction with the 'gateway' plots at The Grove. Intimate in character and community focused. Including a health centre, fruit trees, high quality finishes of Dutch brick and natural stone, light fittings and furniture and at Deptford Park Square. Animated by new local shops, cafes and restaurants and a place to dwell where the Square terraces down into the water body at its head.
